Has Von Miller been suspended for his arrest in 2023? Bills coach says, ‘You can wear what you can wear.’

McDermott was asked whether the NFL had given a reason for the suspension and whether fans should assume it was a result of the investigation into his arrest last year. The Bills coach said he couldn’t go into details.

“I can’t,” he said. “I can’t go into detail about that. So you can wear what you can wear. … Looking at it, we know the league has to go through its process. And that’s really where we are as a team and as a club in terms of the overall situation and how this decision was made.

Miller spoke to reporters July 25 at the Bills’ training camp at the University of St. John Fisher. He said no charges were ever brought against him in connection with his arrest last November.

“The case is closed,” he announced. “I can just move forward and focus solely on football. Life sometimes, but right now my life is all about football, my kids and being the best teammate and the best player I can be. I’m happy to be here with the Buffalo Bills. I’m happy to be in the moment, live my life and do the things we usually do.

McDermott said the Bills learned of the suspension within the last few days.

Miller played just nine defensive snaps for the Bills in Sunday’s 35-10 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. McDermott said the team wanted to control Miller’s snap count, but added Buffalo’s inability to stop the run also contributed to how much Miller played.

“We were playing on their terms at that point, not winning enough first downs and second downs, what have you,” McDermott said Monday. “It limits the number of one-dimensional situations where we were forced to back off and throw. …still plays the occasional first and second down, but overall he’s just trying to stay sane.

Miller must be sidelined for the next four games, but could return for the Bills’ Week 9 matchup against the Miami Dolphins. McDermott said his defensive line’s job is to move forward. Rookie Javon Solomon sees a potential increased workload, but the plan is to rely on the “sum of the parts” with Miller unavailable.

“There is no complete replacement for a player like (Miller),” McDermott said. “We have to really believe in this team’s attacking philosophy and help each other. So feed each other, because that’s how it really works. When one player gets penetrated, he may not get sacked, but he pushes the quarterback to another player and he gets sacked.”

The Bills signed defensive end Zion Logue from the Atlanta Falcons practice squad on Tuesday. The 23-year-old rookie was selected in the sixth round of the April draft from Georgia. Logue will take Miller’s place and wears the No. 1 jersey. 97. He was training at the Buffalo facility on Wednesday.
