Anthony Edwards is breaking his silence on the shocking Karl-Anthony Towns trade to the Timberwolves

Anthony Edwards is breaking his silence on the shocking Karl-Anthony Towns trade to the Timberwolves

The NBA season is fast approaching and expectations are at an all-time high. Teams feel good no matter how they perform. It’s the first week of “school” as such and everyone is feeling good as training camp continues.

One NBA team that is doing everything in its power to keep the spirits high is the Minnesota Timberwolves. The T-Wolves are having one of the best seasons in the club’s history. They reached the Western Conference finals for the first time in 20 years and will want to finish this task this season.

This won’t come without its challenges, however, and for the past decade or so, the team will be without one of its key players, All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns.

Last week, Towns was unexpectedly traded to the New York Knicks along with his draft rights to James Nnaja of the Charlotte Hornets. In return, the T-Wolves received Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo and Keita Bates-Diop from the Knicks, as well as a protected first-round draft pick that originally belonged to the Detroit Pistons.

The Hornets will receive second-round picks in 2025, 2026 and 2023, as well as DaQuan Jeffries, Charlie Brown Jr. and Darius Washington, all from the Knicks via signing. They will also receive $7.2 million in cash.

The trade didn’t go well with some members of the Wolves’ organization, including All-Star guard Anthony Edwards. Edwards spoke to reporters at media day and said he was surprised by the trade of one of his closest friends.

“I think everyone knows (Towns) is my brother,” Edwards said Monday. “It definitely hurts, but you know, it’s business, so I have to deal with it.”

The T-Wolves, who started the season as one of the top contenders for the 2025 NBA title, are currently without one of their key players. Just before training camp, and the first preseason game for the Timberwolves is approaching on Friday.

Team president Tim Connelly said the trade should challenge Edwards to continue to improve his game.

“We continue to challenge Edward because we think he can be one of the best players ever, and we don’t say that lightly,” said team president Tim Connelly. “And with those expectations comes great responsibility.”

“I just work. I feel like it’s the only way, man. Everyone is talking about it,” he said of Connelly’s comments. “I mean, the only way is to just work, go out on the court and just believe in it. I think a lot of guys have been given the opportunity to be really great at this game, but I think they just don’t believe in it. I think some guys put in the work but don’t believe in it, some guys believe in it and don’t put in the work. So I believe in it and I put in the work. So if it doesn’t happen, then no. If it happens, it probably will.

The start will be a challenge for the T-Wolves and Edwards; However, if he can improve his game in the future, he and his team will be in action when it matters most.
