The Verizon outage affected thousands of people, especially in Denver

Verizon’s network was down for tens of thousands of people on Monday, and the Denver area appeared to be one of the hardest-hit areas, according to Downdetector, a website that monitors service outages.

According to Downdetector, reports of outages began arriving around 7:30 a.m. Mountain Time on Monday, September 30.

Major cities were listed as most affected, with Denver among them. Other cities include Chicago, Indianapolis, Phoenix, Los Angeles, Omaha, Seattle, Cincinnati and Minneapolis.

Verizon, in a post to X.com, said the company is “aware of an issue impacting service for some customers.”

“Our engineers are committed and we are working quickly to resolve the issue,” USA TODAY spokeswoman Ilya Hemlin told USA TODAY on Monday.

Downdetector showed a peak of over 100,000 outage reports around 9 a.m. By 2 p.m., that number had dropped to about 50,000 and by 5 p.m. to less than 200.

Around 3 p.m. Monday, Verizon said in a post to X.com that it was beginning to restore service.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available. USA TODAY’s Natalie Neysa Alund contributed to this report.
