One statistic proves why New York Jets Robert Saleh is the worst head coach in the NFL

One statistic proves why New York Jets Robert Saleh is the worst head coach in the NFL

There was a lot of optimism surrounding the New York Jets entering the 2024 season.

When quarterback Aaron Rodgers was healthy, there was hope that the offense would perform at a high level, something that hasn’t happened in years. Already having a strong defense, they only needed an average offense to succeed.

Although everything looked good on paper, there was one major problem – the coaching staff.

Head coach Robert Saleh performed exceptionally well as the defensive coordinator of the San Francisco 49ers, which led to his hiring with the Jets. Unfortunately, the same level of productivity does not translate into being top dog.

Basically, they all got a get-out-of-jail card for 2023 after Rodgers suffered an Achilles injury. Virtually the entire coaching staff has been reinstated in the move, and ownership will be regretted.

Entering the campaign, New York was 18-33. This result is bad enough on its own, but it becomes even worse when you consider that the team had more double-digit losses, 19, than total wins.

That record currently stands at 20-20, as the Jets lost by double digits to the 49ers in Week 1, but rebounded with two wins in Weeks 2 and 3.

After building positive momentum, things came to a screeching halt at a rain-drenched MetLife Stadium in Week 4 against the Denver Broncos.

New York was expected to win this game because they had every advantage possible in it. Since they played on a Thursday night in week three, they had the advantage of rest and preparation.

This advantage increased even further when the Broncos’ travel practices and itinerary had to be adjusted due to Hurricane Helene, which wreaked havoc on the Southeast and East Coast of the United States.

Despite this, the Jets still managed to lose the game 10-9. This was met with strong reaction from many people, including former offensive lineman and current ESPN NFL analyst Damien Woody, who placed the blame squarely on Saleh.

That’s criticism the head coach deserved. If anyone has been on the fence about whether he is the worst head coach in the NFL, one statistic will convince you that it is a fact.

As shared by ‘JetsTalkRadio’ on X, Gang Green currently has a 2-7 advantage over Saleh with the extra time to prepare. The only wins were a miraculous victory over the New York Giants last season and against the New England Patriots with Bailey Zappe as the starting quarterback.

In those nine games, they were outscored 195-92 and were assessed 61 penalties. Since 2022, New York has faced a third or fourth team 104 times. On 57 occasions they failed to convert, were awarded a penalty, kicked a penalty or kicked a field goal.

This level of sloppiness and unpreparedness falls solely on the shoulders of the coaching staff. Players are consistently not put in the best positions to succeed on the pitch, resulting in embarrassing defeat after embarrassing defeat.

Things don’t get any easier for the Jets as they head overseas to face the Minnesota Vikings in London in Week 5. They will next face the Buffalo Bills and Pittsburgh Steelers, and Saleh’s seat will be hot as hell if the losing streak continues.
