It’s never been easier to get taxpayer-funded meth pipes and free fentanyl kits in cities across the country. And if you want to know what drug policy will be like under President Kamala Harris, look no further than the same cities where the Biden-Harris administration has adopted so-called “harm reduction” strategies that, instead of addressing the drug crisis, have made things worse.

Harm reduction strategies were initially aimed at mitigating the negative effects of drug use by providing clean needles, pipes and other paraphernalia to prevent the spread of diseases such as HIV and hepatitis. The idea is that people will use drugs whether we like it or not, so why not make it “safer”?

As I explain at length in my book “What’s Killing America: The Tragic Destruction of Our Cities by the Radical Left” these strategies have normalized drug use, increased addiction rates, and left cities struggling with rising overdose deaths, open-air drug markets, and a complete breakdown of public safety.

I saw it with my own eyes in Seattle, where I live. It took me about three minutes to obtain taxpayer-funded drug kits from Public Health Seattle-King County. I walked into a needle exchange in downtown Seattle and walked out with enough equipment to start my own pharmacy. No questions. All I had to do was ask for a “party kit”.

I had to choose which pipe I wanted and I chose a “hammer”, although I could have chosen a simple glass pipe or what is colloquially called a “cupping pipe”. They had stoves, aluminum foil, and even instructions on how to turn aluminum foil into a pipe for fentanyl freebase. Drug paraphernalia was accidentally given to me courtesy of hard-earned tax dollars by an agency that is supposed to help save me from addiction, not enable it.

Most shockingly, there was not even a hint of concern as to whether I was a drug addict, a dealer, or just someone trying to get a freebie. In passing, there was not even a comment about how they could connect me with detox services when I was ready.

This is what harm reduction looks like in practice – making it easier to take drugs, and taxpayers foot the bill.

And if Vice President Kamala Harris gets even close to the White House, these policies will not only continue, but spread throughout your community. Harris’s history of supporting drug legalization, as evidenced by her response to an ACLU questionnaire in 2019, shows that she is fully committed to these so-called “harm reduction” measures. And that should be a terrifying thought for anyone paying attention to how these programs are destroying cities like New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles and Dallas.

In 2021, the nation’s first “supervised consumption site” opened in New York City. They are nothing more than a magnet for addicts, and nearby dealers are ready to sell addicts their next dose. The surrounding neighborhoods have become a war zone, and residents live in fear of rapidly increasing drug crime.

Then there’s San Francisco, a city that has become a poster child for failed progressive politics. Harm reduction efforts include mass distribution of fentanyl test strips, aluminum foil and clean needles. Result? The city reported its highest ever number of fatal overdoses, most of which involved fentanyl. Outdoor drug use is common because there is no incentive for addicts to get clean, while the city provides everything they need to stay addicted.

Los Angeles and its county are not far behind. As cigarettes are handed out to addicts, the mortuary is filling up with dead homeless people at an alarming rate. Meanwhile, activists in Dallas have also jumped on the harm reduction bandwagon, although their efforts are less publicized because they hand out drug paraphernalia in violation of state law, though they pay no legal price for doing so. While advocates say harm reduction helps prevent overdose deaths, the drug-related death toll in Texas continues to rise, and Dallas County is at the center of the crisis.

Let’s not pretend for a moment that President Harris would put public health first, especially since harm reduction already comes into play. A key element of this administration’s multibillion-dollar national drug control strategy is increasing harm-reduction interventions to reduce overdose deaths and promoting treatment for substance use disorders. No significant results were achieved in any of the objectives.

Harm reduction enables addiction, not fights it. And with Harris in the White House, things will only get worse as cities across the country see an even greater influx of taxpayer-funded dispensaries, more supervised consumption sites, and more overdose deaths.

We need a policy that emphasizes treatment, recovery and accountability, not one that hands out pipes and syringes to addicts, keeping them locked up in the same cycle that we should be helping them escape. This is not compassion; it’s negligence.

We have already seen the damage done in Democrat-run cities. Do we really want this to spread further?
