Cincinnati Bengals Chase Brown says fan threw drink on him after Carolina game, NFL, NFLPA investigate

A productive day for sophomore running back Chase Brown helped the Cincinnati Bengals secure their first win of the season.

Brown scored two touchdowns in a 34-24 win over the Panthers in Charlotte.

Brown’s joyful jog to the locker room, however, was interrupted unpleasantly when a fan appeared and threw a drink at the runner.

The incident sparked scrutiny from the NFL and the players’ association. NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy confirmed to ESPN that the league is investigating the incident.

Bengals offensive lineman Ted Karras, who is the Bengals’ NFLPA representative, said video analysis will help gather additional information.

Michael Thomas, the NFLPA’s director of player affairs, said they will attempt to identify the person involved in the incident.

“We’ll see if we can identify this person and then we’ll take action,” Thomas told ESPN. “But something like this should never happen to a player.”

While Brown did not confront the fan, he asked everyone to avoid doing something similar in the future.

“Please don’t pour your drinks on us,” Brown said. – I mean, no one wants that.

Last Sunday’s incident was not the first time the Panthers franchise has been linked to drink throwing.

In January, team owner David Tepper was fined after a video surfaced of him throwing a drink at a fan during a game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

The Bengals return to their home field this week to face the Baltimore Ravens on October 6.
