Big Ten Power Rankings Updated After Week 5 of College Football

Big Ten Power Rankings Updated After Week 5 of College Football

The latest Big Ten Power Rankings from On3, using On3 Massey Ratings, are available after Week 5 of the college football regular season.

Massey’s On3 ratings – which were officially used during the BCS era and have generated high school sports team rankings since 1995 – rank sports teams based on an analysis of game results, schedule and margin of victory.

The week started with an amazing game in Piscataway in between Rutgers AND Washington on Friday evening and continued throughout Saturday afternoon, with Wisconsin traveling to face a USC seeking revenge and an undefeated clash in between Penn State AND Illinois. Here’s where each team stood after Week 5.

Many hoped Ohio State would be tested for the first time this weekend when they traveled to face off State of Michigan in Week 5. If this was a test, the Buckeyes passed with flying colors, and Ryan Day’s team defeated the Spartans on the road by a score of 38-7.

Perhaps Week 6 will bring Ohio’s first close contest of the season as the team will need to be at the top of its game with a win Iowa arrival in town. It’s never easy to face Kirk Ferentz teams, even if they are challenged on offense at times.

It’s safe to say Oregon has realized this after a slow start to the season. Over the weekend, the Ducks faced an old Pac-12 rival turned Big Ten foe University of Californiaand the Bruins were no match for Oregon, as Dan Lanning the team won by three points.

Dillon Gabriel he is gaining form after three tries, and next weekend he will face another confrontation State of Michigan. However, the Ducks will be welcome Ohio State to town next week, so they’ll have to give it their all for the next month.

Illinois many believed they could pull off an upset all week, and those hopes increased after the first game against Penn State, where the Fighting Illini led 7-0. However, it was the best thing that could have happened to the road team, as the Nittany Lions maintained their advantage for the rest of the game and won 21-7.

Drew Allar he didn’t score a touchdown, but he did enough to lead Penn State to victory. The Nittany Lions are still undefeated and they are looking forward to their Week 6 matchup Bruins at the University of California, Los Angeles in Happy Valley this weekend.

Michigan is 4-1 on the season, but every game has been a struggle. The Wolverines continued their winning streak USC with something that many believed would be a barnburner Minnesotabut the Golden Gophers made it more than interesting as they lost by just three goals at the final whistle.

Sherrone Moore the first month on the job has been a mixed bag, but Michigan State is in a good place right now. The next two games will be important for the Wolverines, however, as they will face them on the road Washington AND Illinois.

5. USC (3-1)

USC had to bounce back after a disastrous loss Michigan on the road and it didn’t look nice Wisconsin for most of the first half. However, Lincoln Riley he took control of his team after halftime, and the Trojans later figured it out and cruised to a 38-21 victory.

With a record of 3-1 on the season, the Trojans are looking to prove their worth in the conference, and they will have an exciting matchup in Week 6 against Minnesota. The Golden Gophers played a game against the Wolverines over the weekend, so it’s unclear who will win on Friday.

Indiana continues to be one of the more pleasant surprises in all of college football. The Hoosiers’ offense was impeccable and led them to their fifth win of the season on Saturday afternoon, lasting longer than Maryland on the road.

Officially ranked in the top 20 in the AP poll, Curt Cignetti the team will be hoping to continue their hot streak in Week 6. The Hoosiers will face each other Northwest they should win the match if they play like they have throughout 2024.

7. Iowa (3-1)

Iowa had a bye for Week 5 after a loss Minnesota in Week 4. The Hawkeyes had a solid start to the season, with the only blemish on their record being a one-point loss to Iowa cyclonesalthough at home.

The good spirits could either be greatly improved or dashed by this weekend’s mammoth matchup against the team Ohio State. Kirk Ferentz and his team will be hoping the coach has a few tricks up his sleeve.

On Friday night, Rutgers remained undefeated in front of a raucous crowd at SHI Stadium. The Scarlet Knights defeated Washington, denying the Huskies their first Big Ten road win by a score of 21-18 before running away Kyle Monangai leads the way with 132 yards and a touchdown.

Next up Greg Schiano team is an extremely important matchup Nebraska. The winner of the game will be positioned nicely in the conference to pull off a surprise upset, and the Cornhuskers have proven to be a formidable opponent throughout the 2024 campaign.

Illinois’ unbeaten streak is over Penn State in Week 5. The Fighting Illini got off to a phenomenal start, driving down the field for a touchdown, but it was all in vain as the Nittany Lions were impeccable from that point on.

The Fighting Illini will breathe a sigh of relief this weekend Purdue arrival in town. However, they will face a huge challenge or opportunity in the next two games Michigan AND Oregon follow.

Washington’s offense struggled to pass the ball against Rutgers, but the Huskies had enough missed opportunities that the coach wanted to pull their hair against the Scarlet Knights. When all was said and done, another missed field goal was their undoing as the Huskies lost by three goals in New Jersey.

Kalen DeBoer kills in Tuscaloosa, while Washington suffered two losses in September. Changing the calendar this week may do wonders for the Huskies, however, but their schedule doesn’t get any easier Michigan will come to Seattle for the title rematch this weekend.

Big Ten Power Rankings: 11-16

11. Nebraska (4-1)
12. Wisconsin (2-2)
13. Maryland (3-2)
14. State of Michigan (3-2)
15. Minnesota (2-3)
16. University of California (1-3)
17. Northwest (2-2)
18. Purdue (1-3)

Elsewhere in the Big Ten Nebraska he hit the road and while he stopped an attempt to upset Purdue Michigan AND Minnesota he just didn’t have enough to overcome Indiana AND Michigan appropriately. Time will tell how the top teams in the conference fare in Week 6, as there will certainly be a lot more action over the next few weeks and conference play will continue to gain momentum.
