Alyssa Farah GriffinVance “The Magician’s Heir” from Debate

CNN political commentator Alyssa Farah Griffin stated that the vice presidential debate probably didn’t move the needle before the 2024 election, but it did make the senator. JD Vance (R-OH) “the obvious successor to MAGA.”

Vance and the Governor of Minnesota Tim Walz (D) met in New York for a debate moderated by CBS News anchors Norah O’Donnell AND Margaret Brennansparring over issues like immigration, the 2020 election and the record of their running mates, former president Donald Trump and vice president Kamala Harris.

“I don’t think it changes the race at all.” David Axelrod he commented, calling the debate “an interesting evening” but not one that will change anything as the November election approaches.

“What struck me was that J.D. Vance is a much more articulate Donald Trump,” Griffin said. “Watching this, I don’t entirely agree with J.D. Vance, but he talks to MAGA in such a way that he comes across as an extremely effective communicator.”

She added that she would be “surprised” if Trump really didn’t want to debate again because Vance “did so well” so Trump would like to be the one to make his “closing speech.”

Vance was a “chameleon,” Griffin said. “There are many sides to him. This is one of his greatest political advantages. He showed up with a command of facts. There were some untrue things he said…

“Many!” Axelrod interjected.

“But he seemed… he was trying to show empathy, and I believed it,” Griffin continued. “And then I remember his lies about Haitian children, his comments about childless cat women, and his overall opinion online that he is a vile, short-tempered internet troll.”

“The long and short of it, I don’t know if it moves the needle,” Griffin concluded, “but I think it solidifies his position as Trump’s MAGA successor.”
