2 injured after car loses control and crashes into another car on I-40 East

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – Two people were injured after a car lost control and collided with another car on I-40 East on Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to a crash just before 12:55 a.m. near I-40 East near Covington Pike.

The car was traveling on I-40 East when it lost control and struck a barrier on the westbound side of the interstate.

According to Memphis police, the collision resulted in the first vehicle striking a second vehicle traveling on I-40 East.

The driver and passenger of the first vehicle fled the scene.

Officers spoke to the passenger in the back of the first car, who was still at the scene, but he refused to provide information about the driver and passenger, who fled.

The rear passenger of the first vehicle and the driver of the second vehicle were taken to the hospital in non-critical condition.

Officers soon responded to a disturbance at Methodist North, 3960 New Covington Pike.

Officers spoke with a man who said he was a passenger in an Infiniti sedan that hit the concrete sidewalk on I-40.

He said he was being picked up by a friend whose real name he didn’t know, except that he used the nickname “Bud.”

He told police the ambulance was taking too long, so he asked his cousin’s mother to pick him up and take him to the hospital.

The man also said he didn’t remember much about the accident.
