WKU head volleyball coach Travis Hudson passed EA Diddle for second career wins in a single sport

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Travis Hudson’s legend continues to grow as the WKU Volleyball head coach made history last Friday after the Hilltoppers defeated Jacksonville State. Hudson is currently tied for the second-most wins in his WKU Athletics coaching career.

“I’m more proud of this (overtaking Diddle) than a lot of things that have happened to me, just because I understand the impact that Coach Diddle had in mind. “It’s just an honor that he was ever mentioned in the same breath,” Hudson said.

Hudson passed EA Diddle’s 759 men’s basketball wins with his 760th win against Jacksonville State on Friday and now has 761 wins after Saturday’s victory. Hudson is now behind only Joel Murrie, who won 815 games as WKU Baseball coach from 1980-2005.

“Exceeding his win total is something I really appreciate because, like I said, not because it brings attention to me, but because of the respect I have for the legacy he left here. This is quite a significant achievement and certainly something I am honored and proud of.”

Diddle still leads all time with 1,030 wins, but that’s his win total considering his time as head coach of men’s basketball, football, baseball and women’s basketball.

Travis Hudson became the head coach of the WKU volleyball team in 1995 and coached the Hilltoppers to numerous accolades, including being one of only five programs in the country to produce 20 or more consecutive 20-win seasons.

Hudson won 19 regular season titles, 13 conference tournament titles, 18 coach of the year honors and went to the NCAA Tournament 16 times.

Additionally, Hudson’s produced 31 AVCA All-Region films and 20 AVCA All-Americans during his tenure, including four-time All-Americans Megan Argabright, Alyssa Cavanaugh, Jessica Lucas and Lauren Matthews.

Hudson would continue to rack up wins throughout his career, just 54 games behind Currie. The Tops will return to the court next Friday when they take on Kennesaw State.
