Verizon restored service after a “network disruption” that led to outages in cell phone service for at least 1,500 people in Columbus and other locations across the country.

Verizon said in a post on the social networking site X (formerly known as Twitter) on Monday evening that normal services had resumed. The company said remaining customers experiencing issues should restart their devices.

“We know how much people rely on Verizon, so we apologize for any inconvenience,” the company wrote. The company has not publicly disclosed what caused the outage.

The Federal Communications Commission said in a Facebook post that it was investigating the cause of the disruption.

“We are aware of the Verizon outage that is impacting customers in some parts of the country. We are working to determine the cause and extent of these service interruptions,” the post reads.

The outages began on Monday morning. Some users reported that their phones were in SOS mode and showed other signs of a lack of cellular signal. According to Downdetector, a website that tracks technology outages, more than 100,000 people have reported outages.
