Jonathan Taylor injury: NFL insider provides update on Colts RB’s ankle

The Indianapolis Colts may be without running back Jonathan Taylor, who suffered an ankle injury against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 4.

Taylor, who has long struggled with ankle problems, fumbled on a tackle in the fourth quarter of Sunday’s 27-24 win at Lucas Oil Stadium.

Although Taylor seemed impatient to get back into the game, he was impatient for most of the fourth quarter.

Jonathan Taylor health update

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Taylor is dealing with a high ankle sprain. Although Rapoport called the sprain “mild,” there is a good chance he will miss the Week 5 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

While Taylor may miss the upcoming game against the Jaguars, head coach Shane Steichen told reporters on Monday that they do not believe he is a candidate for the reserve/injured list.

Taylor is a key part of the Colts offense and has started the season well on the ground. The All-Star has 72 carries for 349 rushing yards and four rushing touchdowns through the first four games of the season.

If Taylor misses the game against the Jaguars, the Colts will likely rely on Trey Sermon as a cornerback while Tyler Goodson contributes in the passing game. Evan Hull may also be called up from the training squad.

The Colts have won their last two games, evening their record to 2-2, and now prepare to face the undefeated Jaguars in Duval County, a place they haven’t won since 2014.
