DETROIT — Police said Monday that a second person was killed in a shooting at a popular social gathering spot after a Detroit Lions game.

The fight broke out about 4:30 p.m. Sunday at Eastern Market, an outdoor gathering place, said Police Chief James White. Tampa Bay had just defeated the Lions nearby at Ford Field, 20-16.

“I don’t know all the details, but any time someone loses their life, it’s a tragic event,” Lions coach Dan Campbell said Monday.

The fight escalated when one person pulled out a gun and fired at least two shots. Police officers in the area responded to the shooting, arrested the suspected shooter and recovered two handguns, White said.

“Bumper riding, drinking and guns — those don’t mix,” White told reporters Sunday.

The victims were described as Detroit men, one in his 40s and the other in his 20s. A suspect from Oak Park has been arrested.

White said the confrontation began as a larger fight that ended after several minutes.

“They reconvened a few feet away from where the initial fight had started,” the chief said. “Two of the fighters had their hands up as if they were going to fight each other. … One of the people involved in the fight, an Oak Park man, pulled out a gun and fired at least two times.”
