Louisville Police Chief Paul Humphrey knows his problems. Get to work.

A troubled Louisville Metro Police Department has named its newest leader. Chief Paul Humphrey has been with the department for 18 years and is intimately familiar with its abuses and challenges, both historical and current. He is also intimately familiar with the devastating Justice Department investigation, report and subsequent consent decree negotiations.

As the co-lead negotiator for the department since April 2023 and now the head of the department, it is time to get to work finalizing the recovery plans and getting them out to the community. We look forward to meeting with the chief now that his term has officially begun.

Amber Duke has served the ACLU of Kentucky for nearly 12 years and is the first Black woman to serve as executive director of the organization in its 67-year history.
