Giants make bad NFL history after disastrous loss to Commanders

Giants make bad NFL history after disastrous loss to Commanders

New York Giants players witnessed Washington Commander Austin Seifert score his seventh field goal of the game, ending the game with a score of 21-18 and moving Big Blue to 0-2.

Things aren’t going well in East Rutherford, New Jersey, but Seifert’s field goal on Sunday pushed the Giants’ woes to historic proportions.

If we count correctly, all of the Commanders’ points came from field goals in the win, but the Giants managed to score three touchdowns against their NFC East rivals.

The Giants found themselves on the wrong side of history, as they became the only team to score three touchdowns, not allow any, and still lose in regulation.

This is how the fate of these giants ends.

The main reason New York finds itself at a disadvantage is the first play of the game, the opening kickoff, which proved to be the killer for the Giants in this game.

SAQUON BARKLEY SAYS HE CONTACTED OLD GIANTS TEAMMATE DANIEL JONES AFTER JONES’ BRUTAL WEEK 1 PERFORMANCE

Veteran kicker Graham Gano fell to the turf as he chased receiver Austin Ekeler into the end zone for what looked like the game-opening touchdown, but a holding penalty restored the momentum.

Gano then hit the team’s sideline with his helmet because he was clearly injured. That left the Giants without a kicker for the rest of the game.

While kickers have certainly suffered injuries in the past that have hurt the team’s chances of scoring field goals and extra points, Giants coach Brian Daboll entered this game knowing that Gano was battling a groin problem.

So punter Jamie Gillan tried to get a 33-yard extra point after the Giants’ opening touchdown by Devin Singletary, but the ball was deflected wide by the left-hander. Gillan made his first and only field goal attempt last season from 40 yards out, but this time he didn’t even come close.

Realizing that scoring extra points might be difficult, Daboll opted to score two points on the next two tries, but it yielded no results.

Ultimately, the Giants lost to Washington, allowing seven scoring drives, a situation that wouldn’t have been worse had the Commanders been able to capitalize on their red-zone drives. Instead, they were hobbled by false starts and poor execution.

The Giants saw some improvement in this contest compared to last week’s 28-6 home opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Rookie quarterback Malik was all over the field with 10 catches and 127 yards with his first career touchdown.

But late in the fourth quarter, on a key fourth-and-short play, he dropped the easiest catch of his time by Daniel Jones, allowing Jayden Daniels to charge downfield toward Washington and score the game-winning field goal by Seifert.

Either way, the Giants are 0-2 and have a really tough schedule ahead of them, including a road game against the Cleveland Browns and then a short week against the Dallas Cowboys on “Thursday Night Football.”

The Giants hope they can keep their season afloat before things spiral out of control like they did in 2023. To do that, they can’t fall victim to another bad NFL story.
