Mystics vs. Dream WNBA prediction, odds and key players for Friday, September 13 (All in)

Mystics vs. Dream WNBA prediction, odds and key players for Friday, September 13 (All in)

It’s safe to say that the most important game in the WNBA standings will take place on Friday night in Atlanta.

The Washington Mystics and Atlanta Dream are both 12-24 — one game behind the WNBA’s eighth-seeded team — with just four games remaining.

A loss on Friday could hurt either team’s playoff chances, especially if the Chicago Sky (11.5-point underdogs to Minnesota) somehow pull off an upset on Friday night.

Atlanta is a slight favorite in this match, but bookmakers have actually gone with the pick.

Here are the odds, key players to watch and my top pick for Friday, September 13th.

Mystic Injury Report

Austin missed the team’s last game with an ankle injury and there is a chance she will be sidelined for the rest of the 2024 season.

Dream Injury Report

Mystics of Washington

Aaliyah Edwards: The rookie notched a double-double in a landslide victory over the Sky on Wednesday, finishing with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Edwards had an up-and-down rookie season, but with Austin out injured, she could be poised for a huge role in the final four games of the season.

Atlanta’s Dream

Rhyne Howard: Howard’s 30-point streak came to an end Tuesday in a loss to Minnesota, but the Dream need her to have a short memory in a must-win game on Friday. Howard is averaging 17.9 points per game this season but is shooting just 37.6 percent from the field.

Since the Olympic break, the Mystics have overtaken the Dream in net worth and are 6-4 in their last 10 games, winning by three games over Atlanta, which is 3-7 over the same span.

The Mystics, even without Austin, are playing their best basketball of the season when it’s needed most. I think they’re the guys to bet on Friday.

Washington has impressed on the road, with an 8-11 record on the road in 2024 and a 13-5-1 record against the spread.

After playing much of the season without Austin and Brittney Sykes, the Mystics were bolstered by the return of Sykes in the second half of the season.

Meanwhile, Atlanta has been one of the league’s worst offenses and shooting percentages all season, and its home record against the spread is just 7-10-1.

The Dream had multiple chances to take the 8th seed from the struggling Sky, but they fell short time and time again. I’m betting Washington will take advantage of the opportunity on Friday.
