Tom Brady Embraces Rookie Role Ahead of NFL Debut: ‘I Want to Earn It’

Tom Brady is just 24 hours into his rookie debut.

That’s right, the legendary NFL quarterback and future Hall of Famer will be a rookie all over again when he takes the wheel for the first time Sunday afternoon as the play-by-play announcer and lead analyst for the NFL on FOX.

“Of course, I’m very excited,” Brady said during a halftime interview during the Texas-Michigan game on “Big Noon Kickoff.”

“Of course, there’s some trepidation. A lot of people have put a lot of preparation into this, and it’s been a journey that’s spanned several years.”

The seven-time Super Bowl champion will join commentator Kevin Burkhardt in the booth and veteran reporters Erin Andrews and Tom Rinaldi as they cover the Week 1 matchup between the Dallas Cowboys and Cleveland Browns as part of “America’s Game of the Week” on FOX Sports.

“I get to cover the sport I love, and I’m really excited about it,” Brady said Saturday.

“I love joining great teams and I have that here at FOX, and I have that with my crew. . . . I’m a newbie in a lot of ways,” he continued. “I want to come here and I want to earn it. I want to go out there every day and do the best I can for them and for the fans. I want to give everybody a little bit of insight, so everybody understands (the game) a little bit deeper, and I’m really excited about that.”

Brady gave viewers a taste of what they can expect from him on Sunday as he discussed the quarterback’s play.

“They had different seasons last year. Dak (Prescott) had probably the best season of his career statistically. Deshaun (Watson) wants to go out and prove that Cleveland is invested in him and that he can deliver when it counts.
