Seattle Mariners team leader makes shocking comments about 2024 season

The Seattle Mariners defeated the St. Louis Cardinals 6-1 on Friday night at Busch Stadium. The victory moved Seattle to 72-70 and 4.5 games back of the American League West. Seattle is now 4.5 games behind the Minnesota Twins for the third and final American League wild card spot.

The M’s have won three straight games, receiving support from all corners of the lineup. Bryce Miller threw 6.0 shutout innings Friday, and the offense recorded double-digit hits for the third straight year.

After the game, team leader JP Crawford had some eye-opening comments about the team’s offensive approach. According to Adam Jude of the Seattle Times:

JP Crawford:

“As a group, we’ve simplified a lot of things. Everyone’s just going into every shot relaxed, calm and ready to do some damage. We all have a plan, and in these last few games, the plan has been simple, and I think everyone’s bought into that.”

More Crawford:

“Collectively, over the last few months, we went in with a plan that was way too complicated. Over the last few weeks, we’ve simplified everything — just getting back to trusting ourselves, trusting our hands and just having that see-ball/hit-ball mentality.”

We don’t know what the previous approach was, but we do know it didn’t work. Seattle has ranked near the bottom of the league on offense in most major categories all year. Crawford’s comments point to solid direction under new interim offensive line coach Edgar Martinez and point to issues under Brant Brown/Jared DeHart/Scott Servais. All three were fired by the Mariners during the season.

The M’s still have a tough fight ahead of them to make the play-offs, but their new approach to attacking play will certainly make them more visible to fans and their players will achieve better results.

Seattle will face St. Louis on Saturday afternoon at 5:15 PM PT.

That said, you should still listen in, as we got some great perspective on what the M’s are going through from MLB Network’s Adnan Virk and NESN’s Tom Caron. Brady also discusses how owners should invest in spending going forward. CLICK HERE:
