Boston Traffic Stop Leads to Firearm Seizure, Arrest

BOSTON — A routine traffic stop in Roxbury early Saturday morning ended with the arrest of a South End woman on various firearms charges.

On Saturday at approximately 3:20 a.m., officers from Boston Police B-2 Division patrolling the 1500 block of Columbus Ave. observed a vehicle with expired registration.

After stopping the vehicle using emergency lights and sirens, officers identified the driver as 25-year-old Crystal Oviedo.

After checking her documents, it turned out that Oviedo’s driving license was suspended and she was driving illegally.

A subsequent search of the car led to the discovery of a 9 mm Taurus Millennium Pt111 G2 semi-automatic pistol under the passenger seat.

The weapon contained 8 rounds in the magazine and one in the chamber. The serial number was obliterated.

Oviedo was arrested and is scheduled to appear in Roxbury District Court.

Charges include possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm without a license, illegal possession of ammunition, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license and operating an unregistered motor vehicle on a public road.

B-2 District Detectives continue to investigate the incident.
