COLUMBIA, South Carolina – The No. 25 Clemson Tigers (4-1-1) faced the South Carolina Gamecocks (2-0-3) in Columbia in Game 31 of the Palmetto Series on Thursday night, with Christian Brathwaite’s late goal clinching a tie against their in-state rival.

“It’s great to come here, play in front of a great crowd and be the enemy, so to speak,” said head coach Eddie Radwanski. “I actually thought we played pretty well the whole game. We had a lot of the ball, we were a little disappointed to concede two minutes into the first half, but you have to give credit to our kids because right up until the final whistle we didn’t give up. They didn’t give up, they kept fighting and kept fighting. I thought we deserved something out of the game and I was happy we managed to get the ball at the end. It was a good sign that determination and courage go hand in hand.”

The first half was quiet for both teams, with Clemson outscoring the Gamecocks by seven shots to four. The Tigers held possession for most of the first half, creating good chances at the top of the box and allowing minimal opportunities for the South Carolina offense.

The Gamecocks took the lead early in the second half, scoring in the 46th minute through Catherine Barry, assisted by Katie Shea Collins.

Right up until the end, with just a minute left in the game, Christian Brathwaite’s goal from assists by Maria Manousos and Dani Davis in the 89th minute gave the Tigers their only goal of the night. It gave Brathwaite her second goal of the season, while Manousos and Davis had their second and third assists respectively.

Goalie Nona Reason was able to keep the Tigers in the game, allowing just one goal. The goalie made three more saves on the night, giving him a total of 11 saves on the year.

Overall, the Tigers had 16 shots on goal against the Gamecocks and their team held the ball for 56 percent of the game, while South Carolina held it for 44 percent.

The Tigers will next face the Charlotte 49ers on Sunday, September 8 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. on ESPN+.
