Downs remains out of action after suffering a high ankle sprain a month ago, but he told reporters Thursday that he feels “really close” to returning to action after recently returning to route running, but his stats for Sunday are still “uncertain.”

In Downs’ absence, rookie AD Mitchell has taken the lion’s share of the snaps at that spot, though we’ve also seen the Colts move Michael Pittman Jr. and Alec Pierce from outside to the slot. Fellow rookie Anthony Gould has also seen reps at that spot.

If Gay is unable to play, undrafted rookie Spencer Shrader will get a chance to play against Houston.

The injury report is fairly light on the visiting Texans, who did not trade star defensive end Will Anderson Jr. after he spent most of the preseason struggling with an ankle injury. Stewart, a reserve safety, was the only other name to miss practice this week.
