Steelers quarterback Russell Wilson (calf) limited in practice ahead of season opener against Falcons

With backup Justin Fields pushing him in camp, Wilson managed to earn a spot in the starting lineup during the preseason despite struggling to find a rhythm in his abbreviated appearances. Wilson being limited on Thursday doesn’t mean he won’t play Sunday against the Atlanta Falcons, but it does indicate a recurring problem, considering he dealt with similar calf issues early in camp, which opened the door for Fields to make him interesting.

After an unceremonious departure from Denver, Wilson was signed as a free agent by Pittsburgh early in a season that could decide the fate of his flagging NFL career. He will have three days to make it to Pittsburgh’s season opener in Atlanta.
