Seattle Mariners draft pick impresses in first matchup with Pro Action

The Seattle Mariners have already proven to have one of the best farm systems in all of major league baseball, earning praise from multiple media outlets.

But Seattle’s success in the farm system isn’t limited to just its top 100 prospects.

It also extends to the current draft class.

Many of the players selected by the Mariners in the 2024 draft class have already made their professional league debuts, and some of them are already making an impression.

Right-handed reliever Will Riley made his debut Tuesday and helped the team finish first in the game with one inning to go.

Another player drafted in 2024, Josh Caron, has also impressed.

Caron made his professional debut on August 14 with the Modesto Nuts, the club’s Low-A affiliate, and has since appeared in 10 games.

Caron, a fourth-round draft pick out of Nebraska, checked off a bucket list milestone Tuesday by hitting his first professional home run. His first long throw was unforgettable — a three-run shot that gave him the lead.

Caron was drafted primarily for his strength and consistent touch, which he showed with the Cornhuskers.

In his final season at Nebraska in 2024, Caron hit a .306 average, hit 16 home runs and had 65 RBIs.

In 10 games with the Nuts, he has a .324 average (12-for-37) with the aforementioned home run and eight RBIs. He has caught all 10 games he has played in. In 90 innings behind the plate, he has caught two runners on steals, helped force a double play and committed only three errors in 104 opportunities.

First impressions are important. And it looks like Caron is making the most of them.
