Nearly 34,000 gallons of sewage spilled at Camp Lejeune

CAMP LEJEUNE, N.C. (WITN) – About 34,000 gallons of sewage spilled into a waterway at an eastern military base, according to the water company.

Onslow Water and Sewerage Board said a possible sewage leak was reported at around 2.20pm on Wednesday.

Officials determined the leak was caused by a sewer main break that sent approximately 33,900 gallons of sewage into Wallace Creek along Piney Green Road in Camp Lejeune.

ONWASA said the spill has been reported to the North Carolina Department of Water Quality and that cleanup efforts are underway.
