Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone may not share the organization’s views ahead of the 2024-25 season.

“There are rumors,” ESPN’s Zach Lowe said in his appearance Lowe’s Post Office podcast this week (source: RealGM). “Rumors! That the coaching staff and front office, or at least the head coach and front office, are not entirely on the same page in Denver. To a degree that is almost unusual for the NBA.”

Perhaps Malone isn’t thrilled that the Nuggets let free agent Kentavious Caldwell-Pope leave, a key piece on the team who provided solid defense and shooting from three (40.6 percent from three last season) around a core of Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Michael Porter Jr. and Aaron Gordon.

The Nuggets haven’t done much to replace him either, with Russell Westbrook — who will be a backup point guard — the team’s biggest acquisition of the offseason. That means the less-proven Christian Braun will likely find himself in the starting lineup, and Denver’s depth overall seems like a potential issue.

Even with Caldwell-Pope gone, Denver has one of the best starting lineups in basketball. But beyond that, the talent is rapidly declining, which could make it difficult for the team to remain a title contender.
