“Let’s take care of each other”

“Let’s take care of each other”

As students return to the city and head to local bars and nightclubs, police are once again warning students and the public to beware of drug-laced drinks and rofen pills.

“As we approach the first weekend of school, the Department would like to remind all students and the public of the dangers of odorless, colorless, and tasteless drugs, such as Rohypnol, also known as roofie, being added to the drinks of unsuspecting victims,” Boston Police wrote in a public safety alert.

Other drugs commonly used in a similar manner include GHB (gamma-hydroxybutyric acid) and ketamine.

Police said drugs and other substances can cause disorientation, confusion, temporary paralysis or loss of consciousness, as well as a range of other symptoms, “making the potential victim vulnerable to the suspect’s intentions.”

“While BPD encourages everyone to look out for each other when socializing by creating a ‘buddy system’ to prevent separation, there are steps you can take on your own to ensure your personal safety,” the BPD adds.
