Kansas City Chiefs Week 1 Stats and Milestones vs. Baltimore Ravens

Kansas City Chiefs Week 1 Stats and Milestones vs. Baltimore Ravens

When the Kansas City Chiefs take the field Thursday night against the Baltimore Ravens, many eyes will be on the champions as they attempt to win three championships. Andy Reid’s team has a chance to make a statement, but there will also be some individual touchstones along the way.

Let’s take a look at the most interesting stats and accomplishments the Chiefs stars could achieve in Week 1.

Information courtesy of the Chiefs’ official Week 1 notes.

Patrick Mahomes’ greatness can’t be measured in a single number, but he could climb even higher in Chiefs history with a solid performance against Baltimore. With just 84 yards passing Thursday night, the two-time NFL MVP will pass Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback and Kansas City legend Len Dawson in the league in passing yards. Now with 28,424 yards for his career, Mahomes could be one big quarter away from becoming the franchise’s all-time yards leader. That’s impressive, especially for someone less than a decade into his career.

Over the years, Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce have solidified their place as arguably the NFL’s best duo. Whether it’s the regular season or the postseason, the league’s best quarterback and tight end have consistently shined. Their combined 51 touchdowns, which ranks third all-time, are testament to that. With one more field goal in Week 1, Mahomes and Kelce could break a tie with former New Orleans Saints stars Drew Brees and Jimmy Graham for third place.

Speaking of Kelce, he could be a bit of a whirlwind this week beyond Mahomes. He’s currently tied with perennial Dallas Cowboys star Jason Witten in touchdown receptions with 74, so one more could put him in the top five among all tight ends to ever play. With two touchdowns, he could tie Tony Gonzalez for the most in Chiefs history. With 907 career receptions, he needs just nine catches to tie Gonzalez for that Kansas City record, and he could pass him with a 10-catch record against Baltimore. He’d have two such contests (or better) in the 2023-24 regular season and one in the playoffs.

To date, Creed Humphrey has yet to miss a single start for the Chiefs. It’s safe to say that level of consistency and toughness has contributed to his record-breaking long-term contract extension, which he signed last month. After making 51 consecutive regular-season starts, Humphrey is set to reach 52 on Thursday night. Assuming he does, he’ll break a tie with defensive lineman Art Still for the third-straight start for the Chiefs.
