MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) – A teenage girl was taken to the hospital after a fight led to a shooting at the Whitehaven Community Center Thursday afternoon, the Memphis Police Department said.

Witnesses tell Action News 5 the victim, a 14-year-old girl, was shot in the arm. They also say the girl’s shooter is an adult.

“Such a small argument should never have escalated into something so serious and become such a big problem,” said Jamiyah Leake, one of several eyewitnesses.

Officers received a call at 3:53 p.m. and immediately went to the facility at 4318 Graceland Drive, where the teen was found with non-critical injuries.

She was referred to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital for treatment.

Police say the fight did not occur inside the building. The girl’s shooter reportedly drove away in a black sedan with two other girls.
