Drainage works in Hastings city centre causing detours

HASTINGS, Neb. (KSNB) – The westbound lane of South Street between Hastings and Denver Avenues, as well as Hastings Avenue between First Street and South Street, are closed to replace a sewer pipe that collapsed Tuesday.

The cause of the collapse has not been determined. The city is only helping with temporary traffic control and is not involved in the sewer project.

The damaged sewer line serves the Bristol Station at 101 S. Hastings Ave.

Hastings Avenue will be closed to traffic, but businesses will be able to pass through.

The sewer project, which began on Wednesday, is expected to take about a week to complete.

Drilling activities will be conducted on South Hastings Avenue south of the tracks and also at the intersection of South Hastings Avenue and South Street.

Westbound traffic on South Street will be delayed as vehicles from Denver Avenue are diverted to Third Street and Burlington Avenue.

To minimise traffic impact and allow eastbound traffic to continue, only the westbound lane of South Street will be closed.

We appeal to everyone to exercise caution when driving near the construction site.
