It’s been an eventful summer for the Dallas Cowboys, but at least one NFL executive thinks it might not be such a bad thing.

“They thrive on chaos,” the GM told Mike Sando of The Athletic. “Just from a raw talent perspective, it’s a pretty good group. (DaRon) Bland’s injury is significant, but they’ll be able to attack the quarterback. They’ll be able to score. They’ll be tough.”

Star player CeeDee Lamb sat out training camp, waiting for a long-term contract extension. On Aug. 26, he signed a new four-year deal worth $136 million.

The Cowboys have also discussed extending Dak Prescott’s contract, but the two sides have yet to reach an agreement. Jeremy Fowler reported on Thursday that it “looks like” Prescott will become a free agent in 2025 after the final year of his current contract ends.

Head coach Mike McCarthy is also in the final year of his contract with the team and his future could be uncertain if the Cowboys fail to make a deep playoff run.

Dallas’ defense will also be shorthanded early in the season, as defenseman DaRon Bland was placed on the injured reserve list with a stress fracture in his foot following his breakout 2023 season.

However, All-Pro cornerback Trevon Diggs is expected to return after missing the final 15 games of his 2023 campaign with a torn ACL. The Cowboys defense still has standout players on the defensive line, such as Micah Parsons and DeMarcus Lawrence.

The Cowboys will look to put a busy offseason behind them and try to capture their second consecutive NFC East crown. Their journey begins in Week 1 against the Cleveland Browns, with kickoff set for 4:25 p.m. ET on Sunday.
