NFL Insider Pours Cold Water On Dak Prescott’s Contract Extension With Cowboys

There were a couple of interesting and promising updates regarding Dak Prescott on Wednesday. First, an unexpected source suggested that a contract extension with the Dallas Cowboys could be imminent. Then, there were rumors that Jerry Jones might hold off on that news until Thursday or Friday in order to steal the Week 1 spotlight.

Now those theories have been poured cold water on by NFL expert Ian Rapoport.

During an interview with NFL Network, Rapoport said the two sides are “not close” to an agreement. He added that if an agreement isn’t reached by Saturday, he believes there’s a chance it won’t happen at all.

Rapoport went on to say that if Prescott hits the open market next offseason, it’s highly likely he won’t return to Dallas. Regardless of whether he leaves or not, Prescott will likely become the highest-paid player in the NFL once he signs a new deal.

The Cowboys were hesitant to do so, but there is no doubt Prescott would be able to command a price on the open market if a bidding war ensued.
