Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb to Meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (WAVE) – Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb and a small delegation arrived in Kyiv on Thursday to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and other government officials.

The announcement stated that the diplomatic outreach will aim to positively impact future bilateral economic, academic and cultural partnerships between Indiana and Ukraine.

“Indiana’s reach extends far beyond our state’s borders. Where others may hesitate, Hoosiers rise to the occasion, especially for friends in need,” Holcomb said. “Ukrainians have long been known for their resilience, courage and innovation. By strengthening our global connections, even in the most difficult times, our people and their communities can thrive and ultimately thrive.”

Holcomb and Zelensky are scheduled to discuss how the Hoosier state can strengthen its support for the European country now and in the future, including continued support for agriculture and life sciences. Zelensky will also witness the signing of an MOU between Indiana and the Zhytomyr region of Ukraine.

Additional officials Holcomb plans to meet with Dr. Svitlana Ramer, honorary consul of Ukraine in Indiana, Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Bridget A. Brink.

Holcomb is also scheduled to visit the Ukraine Wall of Remembrance to honor those who lost their lives in the war between Ukraine and Russia. He is the first U.S. governor to visit the site since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

This is Holcomb’s 25th international economic development trip as governor and his first to Ukraine. The trip is being paid for by private donations to the Indiana Economic Development Foundation.
