Here’s When Fall Colors Could Peak in Michigan in 2024

(WXYZ) — September is just around the corner and fall is fast approaching. SmokyMountains.com has once again released its 2024 Fall Color Map, showing when you can expect to see the most fall colors across the country.

The company uses a data model that takes into account a number of factors – including historical temperatures and precipitation, projected temperatures and precipitation, tree species in the region and more.

They also have end users who provide real-time leaf reports, but remind people that the forecasts are not 100% accurate.

Here’s When Fall Colors Could Peak in Michigan in 2024

Below is a breakdown of the forecasts by week, by website.

Week of September 16

Fall colors are expected to be uneven across southeast Michigan and minimal in western Michigan. Parts of the Central and Western Upper Peninsula will have partial color.

Week of September 23

Colors will start to increase across Michigan. There will be partial color in southeast Michigan. The western Upper Peninsula may be partial while the central Peninsula may be near the top. The eastern UP may be patchy.

Week of September 30

Colors could be near peak the week of Sept. 30, according to the website, followed by partial colors in western Michigan, northern Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula. They could peak in the Central UP.

Week of October 7

The website predicts that most of eastern Michigan will see peak precipitation the week of October 7, with western Michigan, northern Michigan and the eastern Upper Peninsula seeing near peak precipitation.

Week of October 14

Officials predict that colors will pass their seasonal peak in metropolitan Detroit and central Michigan, as well as western Uttar Pradesh, by mid-October, but the peak could occur in western and northern Michigan and the central and eastern Upper Peninsula.
