Former Packers CEO predicts Packers will win Super Bowl

Former Packers CEO predicts Packers will win Super Bowl

GREEN BAY, Wisconsin – OK, maybe he’s biased.

Andrew Brandt, who served as vice president of player finance for the Green Bay Packers from 1999 to 2008, has picked the Packers to win this year’s Super Bowl. Sports Illustrated’s Quarterback Season Predictions from Monday’s Issue.

“I know, I know: My Packers bias is rearing its ugly head again. I am who I am, and 10 years here has given me a tendency to look at this team through rose-tinted glasses,” Brandt said. “But, as they say, this is different. This team is loaded with young talent, a quarterback who finished the season playing as well as any in football, and free agent selections Josh Jacobs and Xavier McKinney who are making a difference.”

Brandt had the Packers beat the Detroit Lions for the NFC North Championship. On the road to New Orleans, the Packers exorcised one demon by beating the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional playoffs. Then, in a Week 1 rematch, the Packers traveled to Philadelphia to beat the Eagles in the NFC Championship Game.

In the Super Bowl, the Packers defeated the Baltimore Ravens 34-23.

“After beating the Dallas Cowboys in the playoffs, they were a few plays away from beating the 49ers; they’re not going to let that opportunity slip away this year,” Brandt said. “I think the Packers are one of four teams that will separate themselves from the rest of the NFC, along with the Eagles, Lions and 49ers. The Cowboys, as usual, will have some tantalizing moments, but we know how their season ends. And I think the NFC will end where it started next week: the Eagles and Packers will play for the championship.”

Brandt helped make Jordan Love the NFL MVP and Matt LaFleur the coach of the year.

The nine-person MMQB panel added one vote for the Packers to make it to the Super Bowl. Greg Bishop thought the Kansas City Chiefs would complete their third win by defeating the Packers for the championship.

Just as the team reached (and won) the Super Bowl in 2010, Bishop powered the Packers to road playoff victories against the Falcons and Eagles en route to the Super Bowl.

Love was named Bishop’s Offensive Player of the Year.

“Jordan Love will have huge season, and this is where his legend begins,” Bishop wrote.

Love and the Packers will open the 2024 NFL season in Sao Paulo, Brazil, on Friday, a game LaFleur was much more open to than the 2022 trip to London, which ended in a loss to the Giants and began a five-game losing streak.

“I think it’s very different because you’re basically staying in the same body clock, and I think that’s an important part of it,” LaFleur said Tuesday. “Obviously, based on our experts here, in terms of where the best practices are, what you need to do, from hydration to eating meals, recovery, those guys have done the research and talked to a lot of people, and I’m really confident in our plan and what we’re going to do.

“And the circumstances are the circumstances, but they’re the same for both teams. You’ve got to embrace it and appreciate the opportunity, and I think our guys will. It’s a great stage to be on. We’ll be the only game in the world and you’ll be able to do it in a place that’s never been done before. So it’s a great opportunity for our guys to go out there and show what they’re all about.”

Of the nine SI writers and editors, seven predicted the Packers would advance to the playoffs, and four would advance to at least the NFC Championship Game.

The Packers were among six teams selected to win the Super Bowl.
