FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards Expand Eligibility to Wide Receivers, Middle Linebackers

FedEx Air & Ground Players of the Week 2024 5C

MEMPHIS, Tenn., September 5, 2024 – FedEx (NYSE: FDX), Official Sponsor of the NFL, announced a significant evolution of its FedEx Air & Ground NFL Awards. For the first time in the awards’ more than 20-year history, the pool of eligible players will expand beyond quarterbacks and running backs to welcome wide receivers and tight ends who deliver elite performances. Players will no longer be limited to winning Air or Ground awards alone and will be collectively recognized as the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week.

To begin expanding the list of awards, FedEx tapped American Football Hall of Fame inductee Jerry Rice and San Francisco 49ers tight end Deebo Samuel to spread the word about including wide receivers and middle linebackers among the candidates.

“As football continues to evolve, we are excited to honor the dynamic nature of the modern game by launching a new era of our popular NFL Fan-Voted Awards,” said Brian Philips, executive vice president, chief marketing and communications officer, FedEx. “While this expanded eligibility will certainly shake up the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Year Awards race, what remains the same is our commitment to supporting HBCUs through monetary donations for need-based scholarships.”

For the fourth consecutive season, FedEx will once again partner with the Thurgood Marshall College Fund to provide $2,000 in donations on behalf of winning players to Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) for each week of the NFL regular season. Over the past three seasons, FedEx has donated more than $300,000 in direct support of need-based scholarships for HBCU students.
