20-year-old identified as man killed in Dorchester barbershop shooting

Boston police have identified a 20-year-old man as the person killed in a shooting at a Dorchester barbershop on Monday.

Elijah Ricardo Clunie of Dorchester died Monday in a shooting at 184 Washington St.

At approximately 12:55 a.m. Monday, Deputy Police Chief Paul McLaughlin said a shooting occurred near the intersection of Washington and Erie streets, leaving two people shot.

Paramedics treated the men at the scene before they were taken to a hospital, McLaughlin said. One man was pronounced dead at the hospital, while the other was diagnosed with non-fatal injuries.

Authorities said Wednesday that the second man was expected to survive.

Investigators do not believe the shooting was accidental, McLaughlin said. Officers searched the area for witnesses and surveillance footage that may have captured the shooting Monday afternoon.

Two men were inside the Exclusive Barber Shop — which is located near the intersection — when they were shot, WCVB reported. Police believe they were customers at the barber shop.

Homicide detectives are asking for the public’s help in investigating the shooting. Anyone with information about the shooting, witnessed it or has video from the scene is asked to call 617-343-4470. Anonymous tips can be submitted to police by calling 1-800-494-TIPS.

Additionally, officials said anyone needing support can call the Boston Neighborhood Trauma Team (NTT) free of charge at 617-431-0125.
