10 NFL Teams That Could Get New Stadiums or Major Renovations

When it comes to stadiums, NFL stadium owners are rarely happy.

When the Raiders and Rams/Chargers opened new stadiums in 2020, they set the bar for the rest of the league. The facilities are architecturally unique, modern, and serve as year-round destinations. The Falcons’ Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the Vikings’ US Bank Stadium also fit into this category (see NFL stadium rankings).

In the four years since SoFi and Allegiant Stadium opened, we have seen other teams attempt to upgrade, rebuild or build entirely new stadiums with varying degrees of success.

Let’s take a look at 10 teams hoping to build new stadiums or undergo major renovations in the near future.

Status: Under construction

This year, the Titans broke ground on a $2.1 billion stadium that is scheduled to open in 2027. The stadium — which will absorb $1.2 billion in public funds — is designed as an indoor facility with a permanent roof to host major events like the Super Bowl and Final Four.

Knowing that Buffalo is unlikely to host Final Fours or Super Bowls, Bills owners decided to buck the trend toward indoor stadiums. The $1.7 billion stadium will be an open-air facility, scheduled to open in 2026.

Status: Maybe move to Kansas?

The Chiefs teamed up with the Royals in hopes of getting public money to upgrade Arrowhead Stadium. The upgrades were essentially $300 million worth of new condos and a parking lot. After Missouri voters rejected the haphazard project, the Kansas Legislature worked hard to get the Chiefs across the Missouri border to Kansas City, KANSAS. We even saw a conceptual design for a future indoor stadium in Kansas. There are no plans yet, but that could change quickly.

Jaguars

Status: Plans for major renovation have been established

The city of Jacksonville has approved a $1.4 billion renovation plan for EverBank Stadium in a project dubbed “Stadium of the Future.” The deal will keep the Jaguars — long considered candidates for a move to London — in Jacksonville for at least 30 years. If all goes according to plan, construction would begin in early 2026, with an opening planned for the 2028 season.

The Bears were going to move to Arlington Heights, but they didn’t. Then they wanted to build a stadium just south of what’s now Soldier Field. But lawmakers have no plans to approve any taxpayer-funded stadium for the Bears. So, uh, maybe they’ll try Arlington Heights again? Who knows? Definitely not. But check out these dramatic renderings of a stadium that won’t be built.

Status: Uncertain, but likely headed for major renovation

The Browns released renderings of a new domed stadium (see below) last month that would be about 15 miles from the current Huntington Bank Field. However, the city and county seem more open to a proposed $1.2 billion renovation of the current stadium.

Status: Renovation

In May, the team announced plans to invest $120 million in improvements to Paycor Stadium, with construction scheduled for completion in 2026 and to be divided into phases.

The Ravens announced plans last year to invest $430 million in state funds to upgrade M&T Bank Stadium, a deal that would keep the Ravens in their current stadium until at least 2037.

Status: Renovation approved

In June, the Charlotte City Council approved plans to allocate $650 million in city funds for an $800 million renovation of Bank of America Stadium. Panthers owner David Tepper would pay the remaining $150 million under the agreement, with the project set to be completed in 2029.

The Commanders are stuck with the worst stadium in college football until 2027, but owner Josh Harris has no concrete plans for a new facility. It could be RFK Stadium or another location in DC or the DMV. Harris reportedly hopes to have a new stadium ready by 2030. We just don’t know where it will be or what it will look like.
