BALTIMORE — Cade Povich had 10 strikeouts in the eighth inning and the Baltimore Orioles took a big early lead and cruised to a 9-0 victory over the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night, handing Chicago its 12th straight loss.

The White Sox fell to 31-109 and became the first team since 1900 with at least three 12-game losing streaks in the same season, according to Sportradar. The 1889 Louisville Colonels and 1899 Cleveland Spiders also did so.

Chicago went scoreless for the 16th consecutive season, is 11 losses short of tying the 1962 New York Mets for the most losses since 1900 (40-120-1) and is on pace to finish the season with a record of 36-126.

Chicago interim manager Grady Sizemore was ejected for the first time since taking over. In the top of the sixth, with his pitchers already having issued nine walks, Sizemore was ejected after a called strikeout by Andrew Benintendi (Arkansas Razorbacks) appeared to be high.

Benintendi was eventually penalized for strikes — a ball that appeared to miss the plate — and then became rowdy enough to get himself ejected from the game by umpire Hunter Wendelstedt.

The White Sox showed a weak offense against Povich (2-7) and had an uncompetitive start for Nick Nastrini (0-7). The Chicago right-hander allowed four hits and six walks in 1 2/3 innings, though only four of his seven runs scored.

Povich, a rookie making his 12th start, allowed five hits and no walks in a career-high 7 1/3 innings. He had never struck out more than six in a game before.

“Very comfortable,” Povich said. “I mean, the offense is coming out on top and it just allows me to relax, get back to the game plan, really focus on what I need to do. And just continue to have their backs like they had mine.”

The Orioles won the series opener 13-3 on Monday, and in that game they had 27 walks to bat with men in scoring position in just eight offensive innings. The next night they had 12 in the first two innings.

Ryan O’Hearn and Anthony Santander each had two RBIs in the first half, and a Colton Cowser single made it 3-0.

The Orioles scored four runs in the second inning without a hit. Cowser reached base with the bases loaded, and Eloy Jimenez — traded from the White Sox to the Orioles in July — picked up a two-out popup behind third base. Benintendi was in position to catch the ball in left, but third baseman Miguel Vargas collided with him and was charged with an error. Three runners scored on the play.

Cedric Mullins issued a walk — Nastrini’s fifth of the inning — and then the White Sox changed pitchers.

Mullins added an RBI single in the fourth inning, and Santander scored a sacrifice fly in the fifth inning.

In the eighth, Santander picked up a pop-up similar to the one Jimenez had in the second. This time, third baseman Lenyn Sosa — who had moved from second base when Vargas left the game — retired at the last second, and the ball fell between three Chicago fielders for a single.

RAYS 2, TWINS 1 Jeffrey Springs threw a season-high six innings, Logan Driscoll scored a run in his big league debut, and host Tampa Bay beat Minnesota.

GUARDIANS 7, ROYALS 1 Player No. 9 Brayan Rocchio had four RBIs and visiting Cleveland beat Kansas City, extending the Royals’ losing streak to seven games, the most of the season.

RANGERS 7, YANKEES 4 Wyatt Langford hit a game-ending grand slam off All-Star closer Clay Holmes to give the host Texas a victory over New York and knock the Yankees off the AL East lead. Langford hit the Rangers rookie’s first walk-off slam, sending Holmes (2-5) to his league-high 11th save in 40 chances. Texas overcame a 4-1 deficit in the eighth inning.

NATIONAL LEAGUE

NATIONALS 6, MARLINS 2 Keibert Ruiz was three short of the cycle, Jacob Young also had three hits and Washington beat host Miami. Patrick Corbin (5-12) allowed seven hits and tied a season-high eight strikeouts for Miami.

BRAVES 3, ROCKIES 0 Chris Sale reached 200 strikeouts for the first time since 2019 and earned his 16th win of the comeback season, throwing seven strong innings to lead host Atlanta to a victory over Colorado. Sale (16-3) allowed six hits and struck out nine, raising his season total to 206, his most since he had 219 with Boston.

PIRATES 5, CUBS 0 Paul Skenes pitched through five innings with pitching problems as Pittsburgh beat host Chicago. Skenes (9-2) got out of trouble with the bases loaded in the first two innings. The right-handed starting pitcher allowed four hits and four walks but struck out six.

CARDINALS 7, BREWERS 4 (12) Michael Siani hit a game-tying two-run single in the 12th inning, and St. Louis beat Milwaukee. Siani reached base on a wild throw by Elvis Peguero (7-4) that put runners on second and third base. He singled across the field to left field, giving the Cardinals a 6-4 lead. Siani then stole second base and advanced to third base on a throwing error by catcher William Contreras, allowing a sacrifice fly by Alec Burleson.
