Seattle Seahawks release unofficial Week 1 depth chart

Seattle Seahawks release unofficial Week 1 depth chart

As they begin their first week of regular-season preparations on Wednesday, the Seattle Seahawks released their unofficial roster ahead of Sunday’s home opener against the Denver Broncos, and it contained few, if any, surprises.

As expected, with right quarterback Abraham Lucas expected to miss at least four games on the reserve/PUP list, the Seahawks named veteran George Fant as his replacement, with sixth-round pick Mike Jerrell filling in as the backup. After spending most of training camp and the preseason working with the first-team offense, the team has Anthony Bradford listed as the starter at right guard ahead of rookie Christian Haynes, while fellow rookie Sataoa Laumea sits behind veteran Laken Tomlinson at left guard.

Defensively, Uchenna Nwosu remains on the roster at strongside linebacker after avoiding injured reserve earlier this season, but a sprained knee could sideline him for at least one game. Behind him, second-year rusher Derick Hall could see an expanded role as the primary backup at the position if Nwosu misses time, while rookie Trevis Gipson could be in contention for immediate action after coming from the Jaguars in a trade.

At linebacker, after returning to practice last week, Jerome Baker appears to be headed in the right direction to start alongside Tyrel Dodson at center. Interestingly, after opening his first camp as a weakside linebacker, rookie Tyrice Knight was moved to the backup middle linebacker position, and Drake Thomas is now Baker’s backup on the depth chart. The Seahawks also list first-round draft pick Byron Murphy as their starting backup at both defensive end and nose tackle, where he could see rotational action behind Johnathan Hankins.

On special teams, after both players impressed in the preseason, veteran Laviska Shenault and undrafted rookie Dee Williams will serve as Seattle’s two primary kick returners, with running back Kenny McIntosh listed as the third returner on the depth chart. After beating out Dee Eskridge for a roster spot, Williams will also return punts, with Jaxon Smith-Njigba listed as his backup.

As is always the case, these standings remain unofficial in every sense of the word. After coach Mike Macdonald declined to name his right guard or go into any other position-related information on Monday, it wouldn’t be surprising if we saw a few deviations when the Seahawks face the Broncos on Sunday.
