Detroit Lions running back Jahmyr Gibbs, who suffered a tweaked hamstring during an Aug. 12 training camp practice, is good to go for his team’s season opener on Sunday evening against the Los Angeles Rams.

Gibbs made his remarks to ESPN’s Eric Woodyard, telling the beat reporter that he fells “98-100 percent.”

#Lions RB Jahmyr Gibbs tells ESPN that he’s ready to go for Week 1. Said he feels about 98-100% after tweaking his hamstring during camp while running routes. “I’m good, just had a little tweak,” he said. Gibbs said he’s “more confident overall” entering Year 2.

The former Alabama star is entering his second NFL season. He amassed 1,261 yards from scrimmage and 11 touchdowns for the NFC North champion Lions in 2023.

Gibbs was present at Tuesday’s practice, which was a good sign for his playing status even before his comments. But it appears he’ll be a full go Sunday against the Rams, who are looking for revenge after falling 24-23 to Detroit in the NFC Wild Card round last year.

Gibbs was terrific in 2023, rushing for 5.2 yards per carry and scoring 10 times on the ground. The versatile back also caught 52 passes.

He forms a tremendous one-two punch with David Montgomery, who gained 1,015 yards on the ground while scoring 13 times. That duo helped pace an offense that scored the fifth-most points (27.1 PPG) in the NFL.

Now the Lions return the key pieces from a team that nearly picked off the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship before falling 34-31. Gibbs will obviously play an integral role on this team as it searches for its first-ever Super Bowl appearance.

The Lions will look to start that journey on the right foot Sunday when they host the Rams at 8:20 pm ET.
