Indianapolis Colts Name Former Badger Icon Team Captain for 2024

The Indianapolis Colts on Thursday selected former Wisconsin quarterback Jonathan Taylor as one of their captains for the 2024 season.

Taylor will serve as team captain for the second time since joining the Colts in 2020.

The Salem, New Jersey, native is one of eight Colts team captains this year, along with defensive end DeForest Buckner, center Ryan Kelly, defensive end Kenny Moore II, cornerback Quenton Nelson, wide receiver Michael Pittman Jr. and quarterback Anthony Richardson.

The Colts, who went 9-8 last season with a mix of Gardner Minshew and Richardson under center, will be counting on a healthy Taylor to be their most effective offensive weapon this season.

Before injuries in 2022 and 2023, Taylor amassed over 1,800 rushing yards for Indianapolis in 2021. With a capable Richardson at quarterback for the Colts, Taylor could replicate his 2021 performance on a team hungry to prove itself in an improved AFC South division.

Taylor also joins outside linebacker T.J. Watt (Steelers), quarterback Russell Wilson (Steelers), offensive lineman Rob Havenstein (Rams), linebacker T.J. Edwards (Bears) and middle linebacker Alec Ingold (Dolphins) as Badger graduates to serve as captains for the 2024 season across the NFL.
