Family seeks million after son dies at Tennessee Boy Scout camp

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — After their 10-year-old son died in a jet ski accident, his parents are suing the summer camp where the accident happened.

Jack Gear’s parents, Crystalyn Gear and Xson Gear, have filed a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit against the Middle Tennessee Council Inc., Boy Scouts of America. A camp employee at the Boxwell Reservation was riding Jack on a jet ski on Old Hickory Lake this summer when he was hit by another jet ski.

As a result of the accident, Jack died and one of the workers was seriously injured.

According to the lawsuit, both jet skis were registered to and owned by the Middle Tennessee Council.

The Boy Scouts Middle Tennessee Council said the camper was a member of the National Guard family and was participating in the Tennessee National Guard’s annual Youth Development Week. Gear attended Union City schools, where he would have attended high school in the fall.
