WSU CB Jamorri Colson out with broken jaw, expected back later this month

PULLMAN — Washington State quarterback Jamorri Colson’s injury is no longer a secret.

Colson has been sidelined for the past few weeks with a broken jaw, according to a source with direct knowledge of the situation. The injury occurred last month, sidelining Colson for 4-6 weeks, meaning he will return for WSU’s game against San Jose State (Sept. 20) or Boise State (Sept. 28).

Colson, a third-year senior who was expected to start the season as a starter, missed the last few practices of fall camp, as well as WSU’s season-opening win over Portland State on Saturday.

Earlier Monday, WSU coach Jake Dickert declined to elaborate on the nature of Colson’s injury, which is unusual for Dickert. In his second full year as the Cougars’ head coach, he has typically been candid about injuries, at least hinting at their nature.

Colson, who played three years at Iowa Western Community College before transferring to WSU in January 2023, was in great shape late last season. Injuries forced him to take action, starting with a loss to Stanford in which he had his first career interception as a Cougar and starting in the Apple Cup, recording one pass breakup in that game.

Redshirt freshman Ethan O’Connor stepped in for Colson on Saturday, allowing two receptions on three targets. Based on WSU’s depth chart for Saturday’s game against Texas Tech, which begins at 7 p.m. on Fox, O’Connor will do the same this weekend.
