Woman charged with DUI after driving at night with no headlights on

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) – A woman was arrested over the weekend when officers found a bag of marijuana in her car and a child in the backseat during a traffic stop in Madison.

According to the arrest affidavit, officers pulled over 19-year-old Jermiaha Smith in a black Ford Fusion on August 31 around 8 pm after officers observed her driving with no headlights or taillights on.

The officers reported that Smith was smoking tobacco when they approached and a 1-year-old child in the backseat. Smith denied smoking any marijuana but later said she had smoked marijuana 1 hour and 45 minutes before she was pulled over, the affidavit states.

The officers reported seeing a bag of marijuana in the center console and asked Smith to get out of the car for a field sobriety test. When she began showing multiple signs of impairment, the officers placed her under arrest. A search of the car produced 20 grams of marijuana, according to the affidavit.

She was booked around 11:30 pm and charged with driving under the influence with a child, and drug possession.
