Two young Portlanders charged with attempted murder after shooting at Aloha Sunday morning

A 21-year-old man and a juvenile, both from Portland, were charged Monday with attempted second-degree murder in an early morning shooting in Aloha Sunday that left at least two people injured and five homes damaged, including forced entry into several bedrooms and living rooms, law enforcement officials said.

Washington County Sheriff’s Office officials said there was an altercation involving at least four people prior to the shooting.

The shooting occurred near Southwest 185th Avenue and Southwest Selvarosa Court. There were several families with children present at the five homes where the shooting occurred, but no one in the homes was injured.

Officers arrested 21-year-old Matteo Greene and a 17-year-old juvenile. Interviews and surveillance footage showed Greene and the 17-year-old attacked two other people before multiple people began shooting at each other. One victim was shot in the abdomen and taken to a hospital with serious injuries, the sheriff’s office said.

Greene was shot in the leg during the gunfire and was arrested by investigators after being treated at a local hospital, they said. He was later booked into the Washington County Jail on charges of attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a weapon, as well as violating the terms of his probation, they said.

Court records show Greene pleaded guilty in February to unlawful use of a weapon and attempted commission of a class A felony for shooting and striking a moving car in Gresham in June 2023, when he was 19. The man whose car Greene shot up and Greene’s girlfriend told investigators that Greene’s shooting spree was sparked by mutual accusations of aggressive posturing at a McDonald’s drive-thru. A Multnomah County judge sentenced Greene to six months behind bars and five years of probation, the same amount of time he has already spent in custody.

Washington County officials thanked the Milwaukee Police Department and the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms for providing dogs that helped investigate the Aloha shooting.
