The 10 best Monday night American football games on the NFL schedule this season

The 10 best Monday night American football games on the NFL schedule this season

The first Monday Night Football game of the 2024 NFL season will take place in a week, on September 9, between the New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers.

Ahead of the MNF season opener, here are the 10 best Monday Night Football games to watch this season.

10. Week 9: Buccaneers vs. Chiefs

It’s a rematch of the only Super Bowl Patrick Mahomes lost, but Tom Brady is no longer the Buccaneers’ quarterback. That job belongs to Baker Mayfield, who led the Buccaneers to the playoffs last season.

9. Week 3: Bengals Commanders

If Jayden Daniels starts his rookie season strong, this could be a great matchup. Even if not, the Bengals aren’t known for starting the season well, which could keep this matchup in check.

8. Week 3: Jaguars vs. Bills

The Bills have obviously been the better team lately, but the Jaguars appear to be better than the Bills. The Jaguars have beaten the Bills in each of the last two times these teams have faced each other, including 25-20 last season. This is also the second game of a Week 3 doubleheader on Monday Night Football.

7. Week 6: Bills at Jets

The last time these two teams met on Monday Night Football, Aaron Rodgers tore his Achilles tendon in the first series. This game will be a repeat and ideally set up a great matchup between Rodgers and Josh Allen.

6. Week 11: Texans vs. Cowboys

The battle for Texas will pit two playoff contenders against each other at AT&T Stadium. If Dak Prescott can outdo CJ Stroud on his home turf, it could go a long way toward earning him a huge contract next offseason.

5. Week 1: Jets vs. 49ers

This match will largely depend on how Aaron Rodgers plays in his first game back from a torn Achilles tendon, but Rodgers will once again face a team that drafted Alex Smith over him.

Jets-49ers is also the team that sees Jets head coach Robert Saleh come over to his former team the 49ers.

4. Week 12: Ravens vs. Chargers

Jim Harbaugh returns to the NFL, and with him the Harbaugh Bowl.

Jim and John Harbaugh have faced each other twice as NFL head coaches, with John winning 2-0 against his brother. The storyline will dominate this matchup, but the matchup itself could be great if the Chargers live up to their potential.

3. Week 10: Dolphins at Rams

In a rare cross-conference game, the Dolphins will head to SoFi Stadium looking for a win over the Rams, featuring some of the NFL’s best wide receivers: Tyreek Hill, Jaylen Waddle, Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp.

2. Week 14: Bengals vs. Cowboys

Joe Burrow will face the Dallas Cowboys for the first time in his career after missing 2020 with a torn ACL. The Bengals and Cowboys have two of the NFL’s best young quarterbacks in CeeDee Lamb and Ja’Marr Chase. If they can pull it off, this should be an exciting game.

1. Week 17: Lions vs. 49ers

The Monday Night Football slate ends with a rematch of last year’s NFC Championship Game. The Lions led for most of the game before the 49ers came back from a deficit to advance to the Super Bowl.

This game could very well decide who ends up with the No. 1 seed and a spot in the first round of the playoffs. Will the Lions get revenge? Or will the 49ers hold on to their spot?
