Record number of trips on Labor Day weekend

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WTVF) — The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is predicting a record-breaking holiday weekend.

They’re calling it the busiest Labor Day travel period in history. The TSA expects to screen 17 million people between last Thursday and this Wednesday.

However, a BNA spokesperson says the number of visitors to Nashville Airport will not be record-breaking.

“We thought it would be busier than it actually was,” said Mindy Leonard, who arrived Monday afternoon.

Still, knowing it was a long weekend, many people showed up early.

“We arrived early to catch our flights because you can expect … the chaos of the holidays, and I just want to be safe than sorry,” Jared Dupre said.

“Everyone is trying to get home in time for work or school,” added Desiree Hathaway, who works at the airport.

TSA advises that if you are traveling over a long weekend, you should allow at least 30 minutes to wait in line at security, or 10 minutes if you have PreCheck.
