FSU football deep under DJ Uiagalelei

FSU football deep under DJ Uiagalelei

Shortly after DJ Uiagalelei threw an interception that Boston College almost recovered for a touchdown, a cheer erupted from the stands at Doak S. Campbell Stadium.

Florida State fans, staring down an eight-point third-quarter deficit that would grow to 15, were fed up with what their team’s point guard was seeing: “We want Brock,” the fans chanted, referring to Brock Glenn, the Seminoles’ other point guard.

Uiagalelei was a key addition to coach Mike Norvell and his staff this offseason. The former Clemson and Oregon State quarterback was a former five-star recruit with all the physical tools to succeed at the position. While he never lived up to the lofty expectations that greeted him at Clemson, he was good enough the past two seasons, throwing 43 touchdowns and 14 interceptions for Clemson and Oregon State teams that won a combined 19 games during that span.

Florida State, however, got off to a rocky start. A Week 0 loss to Georgia Tech could have been considered an early season loss in a foreign country that could be quickly forgotten. But another disappointing performance, this time at home and against a team picked 14th in the ACC preseason rankings, made the calls for change more understandable.

In two games, Uiagalelei has completed 40-of-69 passes (57.9%) for 463 yards and one touchdown with one interception.

If Norvell were to make a change, where would he turn? Here’s a look at Florida State’s depth chart and options at quarterback:

Who is Florida State’s backup quarterback?

When Seminoles fans expressed their desire to hire a new quarterback, they knew exactly who to turn to.

Brock Glenn is Florida State’s backup quarterback, traded for Uiagalelei on the team’s depth chart. Glenn is a redshirt freshman who is in his second season with the program.

Though he’s still relatively early in his career, Glenn has some significant college experience, appearing in five games in the 2023 season, including the Seminoles’ two biggest games of the season: a win over Louisville in the ACC Championship Game and a loss to Georgia in the Orange Bowl.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound Glenn had a lackluster performance in each of those contests, completing just 17-of-47 passes (36.2%) for 194 yards, no touchdowns, and two interceptions while averaging just 4.1 yards per attempt.

Despite all his struggles, Glenn was a rookie player who suddenly found himself thrust into high-stakes situations, playing against top-15 teams, after two players ranked above him were suddenly sidelined due to injury.

Glenn, who graduated from Lausanne Collegiate School outside of Memphis, was a three-star recruit according to the 247Sports Composite Rankings and was the No. 30 quarterback in the country in the 2023 class. He initially committed to Ohio State but withdrew and chose the Seminoles.

Florida State Quarterback Depth Chart

  1. DJ Uiagalelei
  2. Brock Glenn
  3. Lukasz Kromenhoek

In addition to those three, the Seminoles have three other quarterbacks on their 2024 roster: freshman Trever Jackson, freshman Michael Grant and sophomore Dylan McNamara.
