Few NFL starting quarterbacks have been under more pressure than Mac Jones, who had to replace arguably the greatest quarterback in league history after Tom Brady left the New England Patriots for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Fortunately for Jones, the rookie got off to a good start and was named to the Pro Bowl, leaving him very optimistic about his future in New England and the league.

However, things took a turn for the worse, and in the post-Brady era, the Patriots began to gradually fall apart, ultimately leading to the team parting ways with legendary coach Bill Belichick after 24 seasons following the 2023 campaign.

After firing Belichick, the Patriots decided to start over at quarterback and traded Jones to the Jacksonville Jaguars to be Trevor Lawrence’s backup.

Apparently, Jones didn’t get much love during his time in New England, and former Patriots player Rob Ninkovich explained why he disliked the young quarterback via Carlos Talks Pats.

That can happen when a quarterback doesn’t command respect in the locker room or on the field, and Jones proved to be a failed experiment for the Patriots and a player few were sad to see leave.

The Patriots are opting to sign another rookie quarterback in Drake Maye, even though the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft will begin his professional career on the bench and veteran Jacoby Brissett was recently named New England’s starter in Week 1.
