4 dead in mass shooting on Blue Line subway in Forest Park

FOREST PARK – Four people were shot early Monday morning on a Blue Line train in suburban Forest Park, according to local police.

At 5:27 a.m. Monday, Forest Park police received a 911 call that three people had been shot on a train at the Forest Park Blue Line station, the department said in a news release. Police arrived at the scene and found four people injured while clearing the station.

Three people died at the scene, police said, and a fourth was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where he was later pronounced dead.

The shooter fled the Blue Line station as police arrived. Forest Park police worked with the CTA to locate the shooter using video surveillance, the department said.

The shooter was later found and arrested by Chicago police on a Pink Line train, according to police. The shooter had a gun on him.

Forest Park police are investigating the incident in conjunction with the West Suburban Major Crimes Task Force.

“This appears to be an isolated incident and does not pose an immediate threat to the community,” Forest Park police said in a news release.

The CTA has suspended service between the Forest Park and Austin stops as the incident is still under investigation, according to a customer alert on the CTA website. Blue Line trains will continue to operate normally between O’Hare and Austin, and shuttle buses will run between the Austin and Forest Park stops.

CTA CEO Dorval Carter said in a statement that the shooting was an isolated incident and that the transit agency was cooperating with law enforcement on the investigation.

“This morning’s incident on the Forest Park branch of the Blue Line is the definition of a heinous crime and tragedy,” Carter said. “Our condolences go out to those who lost loved ones in this senseless act of crime — our thoughts and prayers are with them.”

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Forest Park Police Criminal Investigation Division at 708-366-2425 or via email at [email protected].
